Refinishing worn and damaged shower pans at the University of Texas

The Campus
The University of Texas at Austin

The Problem
University facility managers identified sixteen private dormitory rooms with shower pan leaks and four common area bathrooms with leaking floors. These shower pans and floors were leaking down to lower floors in the building, causing ceiling damage.

The Miracle Method Solution
Miracle Method of Austin had provided The University with bathtub and tile refinishing in the past and was called in to consult on this problem. The proposed solution was similar to the procedure used to eliminate shower pan leaks at Florida State University, Florida Atlantic, and South East Mississippi State. The repair involved the use of MiraSeal, a Miracle Method high-tech resin system designed to cure even underwater. Its unique properties and application create a permanent “seal” around the tile, eliminating the need for removal.

The Process
Two Miracle Method technicians were assigned to complete the project before the Christmas break. All damage to the tile and grout was repaired first. Once repaired, the leaking tile was treated with MiraSeal to make the tile waterproof. After curing for 24-hours, the shower pans and walls were refinished in a Miracle Method Natural Accents Stone-look finish to complete the restoration. The showers were completed on time and at the quoted price.

The Result
University facilities management was very pleased with the work and continues to use Miracle Method on bathroom repair and refinishing work. Plans are also in place to for major residence halls work over the summer of 2011.
