The Sainte Claire - Unsightly Bathtubs from Poor Refinishing Job
The Property
The Sainte Claire has a long, storied history and is among San Jose's most recognizable landmarks. Opened in 1926, The Hotel Sainte Claire, as it was originally named, was considered to be the center of social and cultural life in the San Jose area. Today The Sainte Claire is a member of Historic Hotels of America, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation which recognizes hotels that have maintained their historic architecture and ambience.
Larkspur Hospitality, one of the nation's fastest growing independent hotel companies, acquired the Hyatt Sainte Claire in San Jose, California in June of 2005 and renamed it The Sainte Claire. The hotel became part of the Larkspur Collection and is no longer affiliated with the Hyatt brand.
The Problem
Larkspur Hospitality Hotels has a reputation for quality and elegance.
Unfortunately, over the years, the previous owners of the historic Sainte Claire hotel chose to go cheap and select the lowest bidder to refinish their bathtubs. This decision resulted in failed finishes and unsightly bathtubs, which were completely unacceptable to the new owners.
Removal and replacement of the classic bathroom fixtures was both unthinkable and impractical. Installed in 1926, the bathtubs would have to be jack hammered out and would cause significant disruption to the daily operation of the hotel.
The Solution
After comparing the quality and dependability of Miracle Method’s unique refinishing process, as well as minimum disruption to the hotel’s business, the decision was made to have Miracle Method restore the 171 bathtubs.
The Process
Restoration involved stripping off the previous coatings, repair of chips, cracks, and scratches, and application of a new Miracle Method finish to make the tubs look and feel like new.
To minimize any disruption to hotel operations, 20 rooms were assigned for renovation at a time. Miracle Method worked quickly to keep the project on time. A special ventilation system was used to exhaust odors out of the building and work was scheduled to minimize any inconvenience to hotel guests.
The Result
The Sainte Claire project started in December 2005 and was completed on time in May 2006. The hotel's bathtubs now look beautiful and typify the high standards of Larkspur Hospitality Hotels. www.thesainteclaire.com
